Suzuki 03-08 SV1000/S SV650/S Rear Seat Cowl

Suzuki Color-Matched Seat Tail Cover
For SV650/S SV1000/S 2003-2008

PROJECT # 1

At present (late 2008) there is not much in the way of accessories specifically for the 2008 SV650S model, especially color matched accessories but they can be found online if you put some time into searching or ask questions in a forum like SVRIDER.COM. First of all I am wanting to tidy up the cosmetics a little as the rear end leaves a lot to be desired in this department.

A good 95%+ of my riding is solo and the missus is the only person I take on the back so the grab rail is pretty well redunant and can go. After some online research I found the rear seat cowls by all the 3rd party after-market accessory companies did not come in the '08 Candy Indy Blue (YKZ) or came unpainted which was a giant hassle for me to get painted in Candy Indy Blue. I found by asking in forums, the Suzuki OEM Rear Seat Cowl, Part # 45500-16862-YKZ (the last three letters are the color code) at ONEIDASUZUKI.COM, a great online resource for OEM and after-market Suzuki parts and accessories.

This seat cowl can be used with or without the grab rail and comes with all hardware and instructions in English and Japanese so even the most mechanically challenged amoungst us can install it very easily and in no time at all. In fact the instructions say it takes 12 minutes to complete, it took me 20 minutes which included taking photos and throwing the ball a few times to my attention seeking German Shepherd.

The cowl attaches exactly as the rear seat attaches so for day to day and solo riding I leave the cowl on and when the missus and I decide to go for a fun ride together I just swap to the rear seat. This is achieved in seconds. Just put the key in the rear seat lock and remove the rear seat cowl and then clip the rear seat back on. When done I just swap back to the cowl again.
