Suzuki SV650S Rider and Passenger Gel Seats

Suzuki SV650S Rider and Passenger Gel Seats

PROJECT # 4

I toured on a BMW R75/6 for 20 years and all I did was add a removable home made sheepskin cover to the seat and that was all it needed. BMW make a great seat! A sport bike usually has a seat like concrete, thin padding and not really appropriate for hours in the saddle.

I looked around at Sargent and Corbin seats, both great seats but come at a price. That price is that they cost an arm and a leg or should I say more than I was willing to hand over. I needed a cheaper alternative just for the purpose of getting a few more miles in the saddle for the wife and I before we start getting numb bums.

Suzuki manufacture an OEM rider's gel-seat at considerably less than the afore mentioned. I picked up a OEM gel-seat (part # 990A0-61000) online from oneidasuzuki.com, including s&h for about $20 less than going to my local Suzuki dealer. I would like also to manufacture a sheepskin cover to throw over it when needed for that bit extra comfort.

I have read that the OEM gel seat is about 1" higher than the stock seat, so that may be an issue for the height disadvantaged rider. However, myself, being 6'4" this is definitely not an issue, in fact it probably helps a tad.

So that's me in the cockpit taken care of, so what about the comfort of my significant other, travelling as a passenger? Nothing much out there really. However I did finally find a suitable item at amspecialtiesusa.com. It is a Comfort Max Gel Pad, measures 7"x11" and consists of foam top and bottom with a 3/4" gel pad sandwiched between. All this covered with a zip-on genuine black sheepskin cover with a non-slip bottom. This appears to be the ideal solution to my wife's touring comfort and was the perfect size to fit the SV650 passenger seat.

I might note here that my SO loves the rear gel pad over the stock seat padding and if she is comfortable and especially happy with it then I be'eth happy also.
