OK ... so this really isn't a project nor a mod but it is a great little tip/trick for touring.

I had read some posts around forums of the 'Redneck' cruise control using a Caterpillar o-ring. I wrote down the size and wandered down to the local Cat dealer. Well the part number I found all over the forums was not the correct size for the SV so the after narrowing it down some the guy at the service desk (who rides a Suzuki cruiser) gives me about 20 different o-rings about the size I needed and tells me to go out to my bike in the parking lot and try them and when I find one that is suitable he will get the part number.

After about 5 different o-rings I find the perfect fit. I go back inside and he looks it up in the Cat parts book and it's
Cat Part # 1S0004. I say, 'Well I'll take 2 to start with' and get out my wallet. He says 'Dont worry about it. Think of it as a gift from one bike rider to another'. Nice bloke. I thank him kindly and leave.

I tried out my new 'Redneck' cruise control last weekend during an eight hour 2-up ride down through Tennessee. It worked perfectly. When I got to TN232 'The Baby Dragon' I just rolled it back onto the bar end weight (cruise control OFF) and the slid it back for the interstate ride home (cruise control ON).

It does not hold 100%, just enough that it takes all the return spring weight off my right hand so I just need to basically rest my hand on the throttle. I can take my right hand off the throttle to stretch it a bit and after about 15 secs I have lost maybe 3-5 mph. Perfect! Just the right amount of friction.

At first I did not like that the o-ring was yellow but now think its good as it stands out and I can see if I forgot to take it off for riding around town. Its definitely a winner in my books and will help my right hand soreness and cramping big time when touring.

BTW, I have used the Cramp Buster a lot and they are great but found this better for my specific purpose. And, yes, I still carry the Cramp Buster under my seat as Plan B.
